Whether your applications are hosted internally or externally, whether you pay for a license or a subscription, you need to know that your firm's systems are built on solid, current, and secure technology. Chrome River is all that and more - it's innovative.
Chrome River Expense is delivered as a service (SaaS). Your firm has no hardware to install, no databases to administer, no application code to manage. It is built by a team of people with many years of experience in your industry; we understand your environment and the systems you support. We integrate easily with your core applications: either through web services or FTP file transfers to our secure site. We manage the application; we host it; we support it. Images of receipts are sent to us by email. Credit card integration is done directly with the credit card provider. Chrome River is a core application that will touch almost every professional and many of your staff, but it will not consume significant IT resources during its implementation or once it is in full production.
To run Chrome River all you need is a browser with the Flash player installed. But the users will benefit from an experience much superior to traditional web applications. Chrome River is built as a Rich Internet Application (RIA). This is a powerful technology that offers users the experience of a desktop application even though it is delivered seamlessly over the internet.
Rich Internet Application technology offers powerful benefits for the user:
- Eliminates the slow process of loading a page, submitting data, and then reloading the form. The typical web-based application is too slow for demanding users.
- Offers the rich experience of desktop-style applications: Drag and drop, image handling (scaling, rotating, zoom), interactive grids that offer sorting and grouping, and interactive charting.
- Delivers intuitive environments. Users frequently lose context when HTML forms change on the screen. The RIA environment gives the user a continuously visible set of reference points that prevent them from "getting lost" as they perform tasks.
At the same time, Chrome River technology offers real performance advantages:
- While normal applications must load HTML pages containing both presentation and application data, Chrome River only moves small data packets between the browser and the server.
- The application executes as machine code on the client - delivering high performance. This allows even large data sets (example: large client-matter/project lists, or long credit card bills) to be manipulated entirely on the client.
- Since network traffic is minimized, Chrome River will offer better performance across even slow internet connections or WAN's with high latency. Whether operating from hotels or across the firm's WAN, bandwidth requirements are kept to a minimum.
- Rich internet applications can perform communications asynchronously. This means that the program can be fetching data in advance of the user requesting it, thereby smoothing the user's experience. For example, the system can pre-fetch credit card details and check business rules asynchronously.
Security is always of primary importance. By operating "inside" the Flash player our application is truly cross-platform: it operates independently of browser version or brand. Of course, there is no need to load or administer the client application. In fact, the application runs in a "sandbox," preventing it from becoming a security concern or interfering with other desktop applications.
All communication with our servers is performed with the HTTPS protocol. Should it be useful to interact with other systems (perhaps to check a business rule), all integration can be performed through web services. Finally, our servers are hosted in a world-class data center that provides its own level of security: both physical and internet.
Chrome River's SaaS model and application technology provides you with a core business-process application at a reasonable cost with minimal IT burden.
